The Reason being: Civ3 survives today due to the fact that Civ4 had flaws... and really did not live up to the hype :/ Soon after 4 was released, many scrambled to the stores to by this so called phenenomon... I was sucked in just like many... tried it out, was great concept behind it... thing is it had so many bugs, or so many different pc requirements... that the majority of players lacking this, made the game even worse... An upgrade was released shortly after... then i was able to actually see my characters :/ In time civ4 will be what c3c is... Why do we play?: We play the game we love because so many out there love a great game with great people... The history of this game is an incredible... What so many people did to start this was amazing... A group of determined players seeking honest, fun, and non quitting players... For those who look back on the first days of this ladder, they remember such great times they had... I have been playing civ3 since 2001 and finally made my way to c3c in 2003... Learned a little about ladder play that year, tried it out, thought was cool, but didn't stay active... I had great times playing this game with open players... around 2004 i made my way back to this so called "ladder" once again from lack of or just not enough trying i was once again not amazed... 2005 really good year got to know a lot of great people... Then comes VVV... a great community of players willing to help... Learned a lot from them but managed to break ties with them... End of 2005 start of 2006 there was a troubling time... "The Rebel Ladder"... Big Mistake... All I ever wanted to do was play :/ lol Learned many many lessons from this... took my penalty like a man and stayed away three months :-( Came back to see another ladder with an attempt to rise up... "VET" or whatever... seeking new membership I applied to both Ladders not really knowing how or what the hell happened with the split... Vets said yada yada yada sorry, So then comes my loyalty to the one and only ladder... The Game will never die: As long as there are eight of us here civing c3c, there will always be a game History is the only thing we have. And if we seek to dig up the past, the whole future changes... As for all of the game wreckers out there sabotaging games day in and day out... impostering people... These people I find rather disturbing... And even with all of the name changes... The Game we Love... will always go on...

I'd love to see someone take civ4 and make a scenerio which is just like civ3 Personally, after seeing many of the scenarios at civfanatics, I wouldn't mind seeing a civ3 scen with civ4 traits. That way we could fix the game the way we like. Civ4 claims to have "solved" the micromanaging thing. Personally, I like the micromanging thing. It helps separate the boys from the men. (Not to mention that Civ4's micromanging is backwards and not exactly true to life). The different units, civs, graphics (please hold the flashy 3D and Leonard Nimoy World as we at Civ3 refuse to have to spend 500-1,000 dollars just to hear a star trek prologue and see spinning clouds and the sun rise and set). The only other 3D in the game is the viewing in-game, and the battle screen. But after seeing the posts in civ4 forum, many put the view to 1 setting they like and leave it there, and turn off battle screen too, as it causes lag. Outside of these "additions" there is nothing we can't duplicate in civ3. We can duplicate tech trees, units, shucks we can even duplicate the civs and the different traits. Scenarios like WWII and Masters of Myrror over at civfanatics have shown that just about anything is possible. I think this further proves that there was no need to release civ4, a new expansion pack to civ3 would have revived this place just fine. Now instead of 1 dying community, civ has managed to split us into 2 (take a look at civ4 forums, those guys are over here posting and the real reason is because their ladder is in a bit of trouble itself, thus the real reason behind "warlords" which fixed no bugs, just added more concepts, not to mention civ wanted to release an expansion which on the store shelfs could be confused for a higher grossing game "warcraft"). The numbers at civ4 ladder are highly inflated by the same thing we went thru not long ago, the open league vs. the invite. They chose to stay open, and I'd venture to guess half of their ladder is duplicate accounts they can't possibly keep track of. The other half is premium accounts transferred from civ3 to civ4 and have gone idle a long time. The interesting thing we have going on here is a lesson in economics. As the United States is in a recession, and many countries in Eastern Europe are just getting thru the flip from socialism to democratic entities, there is a rise in "spend-thriftyness" spending, meaning we can't/shouldn't spend top dollar in areas of entertainment purchases. So we got a great game at Wal-Mart selling its Complete 1.22 version for the price of $9.99. There are more new players in the lobby now then have been since 2 years ago.... long before civ4. AoW actually put on a 2 week blitzkrieg scooping up some of these newer players, who have since become regulars, while some have faded away. Their recruiting methods that were so effective have since disappeared. Other clans who for some reason or another, won't go near these "noobs" (Maybe a pride issue, confidence issue, or just a feeling that we are too good to include noobs attitude). So what we see now is 2-3 open games for every ladder game, following suit where civ4 has gone, when it doesnt need to be so. Don't ask PAC about their mentoring program, or you will only get a defensive stance from their membership, and you won't get the response that should follow. How do we go about getting these players to join us. For this purpose I will put up the tutorial again (still incomplete), and maybe suggestions can be added there and we can kick civ4's arse into another expansion or 2 (Maybe their next expansion will be called "Grand Theft Civ-o")

yep, Bonez cmon, you should thank Bush for relaunching the arms race, thus revigorating the economy and enabling all those new players to buy the game. who cares for the long term anyway ?
(off topic? what off topic?)
