admiral, bear in mind we are not reporting at benchmarks, so VP would only come into consideration if a victory condition isnt reached by 2050
so to all intents and puposes, there is no 'scoring' other than who can either.....
eliminate all the civs hold 66% of land and population earn a culture victory or build a spaceship
if someone hasnt built a spaceship by 2050 (or the game won in another way) i'll be amazed
can we turn diplomatic off?, that would be a bit of a cheap way to win

I will play. Diplo victory off was a good suggestion. I am not certain about the AP aspect over the long term.....need more experience to compare.....but it certainly will bring quicker action in the first era.
I am on Eastern Standard Time. What seems the most crucial to communicate is the block of time for which I will not be checking e-mail to play my turn. Midnight to 8:00 AM I would typicaly be unavailable. I have little problem checking frequently outside of that.
What about diplomacy outside of the game? Any limitations such as revealing map details? And is in game contact required before diplomacy is permitted?
If all players had the maturity to accept a guideline I would love to see diplomacy held in the sense that cooperation that achieves mutual objectives or fair exchanges would be fine. But "Teaming" with the goal of eliminating and sharing another players land is overboard. Only a consideration....Not even sure it can be expressed concretely as a rule. All is fair in love and war.....or is it?

best hours for em to play are 2-5pm EST
regarding diplomacy, out of game contact is the only way to communicate as u cant chat in game
i agree, u should not have contact before meeting in game but i think any level of diplomacy should be allowed
bear in mind, their are no prizes for second place, so just entering a 'full alliance' with your nearest opponent could screw u up - also, unsuccessful attacks can ve VERY costly in VP
might i add, i dont think the game will be settled by VP - i would expect one of the Victory conditions to be triggered before 2050

I would like to join in. I prefer AP for PBEM, it moves a lot faster and PBEM is a slow way to play. I will, however, be out of town until Monday.
I like Arabia, normally I am available in the mornings - from about 9:30 am to 1 pm Eastern, and in the evenings, from 7 pm until about 1 am Eastern.

Hi all. Just curious. How many days is predictable this game last? (consider it ends in 2050)
New to pbem... and trying to figure out if i can have a long time commitment...

2050 = 540 turns
if 8 players, thats 5320 turns to be played ( i did that in my head so it may be wrong)
if it takes a day per player (which is very slow), thats just outside a turn per week
assuming 1 turn per week (slow) at 52 weeks year, 540 turns = somewhere around 10 years - still in my head so may be wrong
however, if turns move much quicker, that timescale obviously radically reduces
in all likelihood, you are probably looking at a year or two, but its not intense
as long as u expect to be able to pass the save on most days (everyone goes on holiday at some point) u should be cool
pbem has a much more single player feel in that u can think about each move and mull over what your strategies will be

as an afterthought, if this game goes to 2050, i would be amazed
AP radically recues game length

Well, we have 6 so far, and Shrek hasn't posted whether he'd join. Of the 6, I'm not sure whether Admiral Hein will be a dependable player. I've read other posts of his saying he can't play civ during the week as he's a student and so forth. If the epic goes with less than 6 players, I'll set it back to Standard map.

2050 = 540 turns (...) assuming 1 turn per week (slow) at 52 weeks year, 540 turns = somewhere around 10 years (...) uah! 10 years will be too ambicious! Anyway I got the picture, sorry to get this out a little of subject and thx... I dont like to javardise the others players games, so, as I am not sure i can assume that compromisse, i will first try it in a little game... pherhaps 1v1 pbem or so... then... if i see i can handle it... i will join the next pbem epic.. have fun civers

Well folks, looks like we go with 5. I wonder if you all will still be up for a large map. I'd enjoy doing a large map simply because it gives alot of room to plan and build in the first part of the game. I like the notion of having a good amount of time to yourself. In any given VP game I've played, warmongering is the greatest source of points. I'd love that to be true here as well, but I also want people to be better ready for warfare, and better suited to wage or defend, and a big part of that is ensuring we have available and secure resources.
Let me know if it's cool, and then write down your civ preferences and what not.
