[glow=blue,2,300] The Civ3 Players Hall of Fame [/u] [/i] [/center][/glow] I noticed the other day that while our ladder has an excellent statistical Hall of Fame, we have very little way to recognize those players who may or may not be top-notch in skill, but still contribute a great deal beside the playing of very good games. So at this time I would like to start a new tradition – that of the Civ3 Players Hall of Fame. What is the Civ3 Players Hall of Fame? The Hall of Fame is intended to recognize members of the multiplayer community who have made an outstanding impact on multiplayer civ gaming in some form – with articles, with service, with advice, or simply with having a good attitude and a laugh whenever it may be needed. Its members can be counted on to be excellent examples of what the multiplayer community has to offer. Please note I did NOT say "Ladder members" - that was intentional. How many people will be listed in the Hall of Fame? The Hall of Fame will open for two new members every three months, on the 15th of that month – except for the first induction which will allow for 5 members. Thus as this one started (almost) on March 15th, you may expect the next Hall of Fame induction to begin on June 15th. Howe does someone get in to the Hall of Fame? In any given session, the top 2 (5 for the first session) vote-getters will be inducted. Please note that vote totals DO carry over from month to month. If the top 5 members this month have 40 votes each, the #6 guy at 39 keeps his 39 votes to start the next induction, and so does everyone else. Does this mean that it will be harder for new members to get in as the “minimum vote total” continues? Absolutely. However, if a new member of the community works hard enough, a concerted effort by a large number of players to get that player into the Hall of Fame will see them there in 6 months at most. Older, more established members are favored – as they should be. Any member receiving ZERO votes in an induction will see their vote total eliminated. How do I vote for someone to get into the Hall of Fame? You may vote starting on March 15th (yesterday, so polls are immediately open) by private messaging me, Friedrich Psitalon. You may vote for a maximum of THREE people per induction period. Please, if possible, put their names in bold at the start of your message, and if you like, put your reasons why underneath. (Once someone is inducted into the Hall of Fame, I will post a brief bio/explanation/portrait/list of that member’s contributions.) You may NOT vote for yourself. Please note these are private ballots – do not post votes here! How can I see how so-and-so is doing? I will update the polls during an induction period at least every other day, probably quite a bit more often. Other Stuff…. Feel free to post congratulations, encouragement, jokes, whatever in this thread – but keep it positive at all times. Negative, hostile comments in this thread will be ruthlessly expunged – this is a friendly thanking thread, designed to make ladder members feel good, whether they are Hall of Fame inductees or not. Also, please avoid “campaigning” in this thread – that’s just a bit tacky. Vote for the people you think are most deserving of the multiplayer Hall of Fame today! Send your private message now!

Just want to thank you for a great idea Fried - That are lots of people that I have met that may not be top players, but go out of their way to help others and be great civvers!

Yes, I'm glad to see this come to pass. Good deal. I guess that the first thing one must do is decide for themselves "what is a Hall-of-Famer?". The professional sports leagues grapple with this question as well. When it comes to Civ, I think that many people made interesting points (including myself ) in this thread from a while back: civ3players.proboards2.com/index.cgi?board=general&thread=1073744457&action=display&start=0This contains my personal definition of a Hall-of-Famer; yours may be different. I think that it is an important question for each person to ask themselves, though, before voting. To me, a "Hall of Fame" should be for the best of the best. Whether that entails skill, contribution to the Ladder, raw stats, longetivity, the sharing of knowledge or a combination of all of the above is for each of us to decide. Happy voting! ::goes to fill out his ballot now::

I liked the throw back to the earlier thread, I again laughed at the first comments... No A Fibutton itll of is something taken By rage from Sergio Loene(sp). Fibutton itll ofDollars and even fibutton itll of Dynamite(also released as "Duck you suckers" I believe.
On an even lighter note, it is nice to see someone pick up the ball on this topic.
Not that you need change or even consider, but the same four people vote for the same guy means the guy will eventually get into the HoF by attrition(sp?). Perhaps the tallies should be scrubbed each time. However you run it it is is a good idea. I reckon as founder you are exempt from induction ;D j/k but I couldn't resist!

Doc, the way I figure, if the same four people vote for a guy over and over and over and over for 2 years straight, earning a whopping total of 48 votes (when if you think about it our winners in month one should have at least 20 or so, 40 or so the month after, and so on....) then after 2 years, maybe we oughta let the guy in for having such fanatic followers.

Ok so do i get this correctly, the top 5 at the end of this voting session get inducted. Then do their votes get ignored after that since they're already in the HoF?
Then 3 months later 2 people, not including the other 5 will be inducted. So there will then be 7 then 3 months later 9 and so on?
If so, then in say 2 years there will be 21 people in the HoF?
Now here's another thing. Will the people in the HoF be ranked or anything. Like what if some new person comes along and does a ton of good stuff and gets like 500 votes in a certain session. But there are already 15 people in the HoF will they be #16 or can they move up or something. Or does rank not matter just simply being there?
I could ask more but i'm sure i've already done enough damage ;D

Ok so if someone wants to say ... "Here are the people in the civ3 ladder hall of fame ..... " Who are they gonna start with first? And who gets to be at the bottom of that list.

They'll start from the top, with the earliest inductees, and move down from there. Why is this such a big deal?

Usually when you talk about a Hall of Fame, either someone's in it or they're not. A Hall of Fame usually doesn't have a ranking system attached to it. You've been around a Ladder too long, Sray.
