Dear Friends:
An incident came up in one of the Friday Future games.
The admins have known there was an exploit we call the "Settler Slide" for some time. We chose not to publicize it. A leading player emailed me in mid-April asking for an advisory opinion on its legality, and I wrote him back (after discussing with all Admins) that it was considered an exploit, although a minor one.
Rule 18 says: "Any player exploiting game deficiencies as determined by the Admin Team risk expulsion or severe penalties".
What can happen is if someone is quick enough on a fast enough computer you can both move the settler to a new place and plant him on same turn. Of course, this is a bug. It is not possible according to the normal rules of the game.
Now all that is gained is one move, but still it is taking unfair advantage of a game bug, and is not allowed in ladder play.
The people involved argued it out and the team who did it ultimately conceded the game which I found to be a very honorable conclusion to the debate.
I am adding it to the list of "THOU SHALT NOTs" published elsewhere in this forum.
Please do not use this exploit.
Best,
SPM
PS: To save poster's time, this is NOT like the double move- which is a perfectly legal maneuver. The game lets you move 1 time each turn. If you chose to time your moves to make the end of one turn's move close to the beginning of another's that is not an exploit. It's shrewd play. It's the way the game is supposed to work. On the other hand, to give another example of an exploit - switching from producing a low cost unit to a high cost unit at the last minute is an exploit. It's a game bug, not a documented feature.
