I will start off by illustrating a common situation that arose recently in two future games I played the last two days. The first game I am the first captain. Elrad is playing and a future noob is also in the game. This gives me a significant advantage as I can select one of the best future players and I know that my team won’t include the future noob. I announced my player pick to be Elrad. The second captain then requested that the player picks be done “Elrad style”. In the interests of balance and fairness I agreed to this; but my understanding is that the first captain has the “right” to demand playground style picking. Same situation in the second game but this time I’m the second captain and Claudelu is in the game along with a guy with a win percentage of 35%. The first captain picks Claudelu and I request “Elrad style”. The first captain refuses and asserts his “right” to pick Claudelu. I think this is an exception to the norm as most players honor a request for “Elrad style”. So we end up with dramatically unbalanced teams. IMO this is lame and shows how some players really care about reports and actually want to play with a stacked deck rather than playing a balanced and challenging game. Usually I see all eight players cooperating in forming balanced teams; but once in a while a stat-hungry player will pull this off.
The reason this situation develops is that the host lets in anybody and everybody. When I host a team game I am selective regarding the players I let in. I aim for balance. I don’t exclude noobs; but I’m not going to have a game with just one noob. I also strive to have an even number of the better players. I encourage other hosts to do the same if they can.
I put this in the Rules thread because I am also going to suggest a rule that would give the second captain “Elrad style” picks if he requests it.

WE REALLY NEED A BETTER SYSTEM
Game today. I am first captain, player "2" is second captain, only a few ranks behind me. Zaxxon is in the game. I start by saying "I pick Zaxxon". Immediate response from player "3" is "no do Elrad". Player "2" says "ya Elrad". I say ok make teams. Player "2" makes teams. I take the team without Zaxxon. Player "4" (on Zaxxon's team) says "this is unbalanced, switch player "5" and "6"". Player 2 says "I want to remake teams". I say "you already made teams". Player "2" says "I wanna cancel that and remake". I, being the most accomodating host on the ladder, say OK. Player "2" remakes teams. This time I take the Zaxxon team. Player "7" says "no fair". Player "8" says "No, it's OK". Player "2" says "I don't wanna be captain". Player "7" leaves.
All this crap took about a half hour. Zaxxon got in 2 smokes.
Even with "Elrad style" we can't get consensus on fair teams.
I propose a rule where the second captain can insist on "Elrad style", and make the teams; but forfeits the first civ pick in doing so.

i suggest playing ppl who don't pull that kinda shyt , I've had it lately a few times to where the host appoints captains , when on rank it where me and someone else. All this shyt took about an 1 hour , so i left adndecided not to play them anymore , that way i won't get the same shyt over and over , i'll play ppl i know , and i know that they will really play and will even try, when the teams are even hugely unbalanced (for example) Don't like to be picky , but lately i have seen it's the best way to get nice smooth and good game going

my god ! how has it come to this ? It's come to this because some people care more about getting an advantage in a game than they do about playing a fun game with balanced teams.

my god ! how has it come to this ? easy. We got a bunch of kids on the ladder ;D The old farts have moved on to beta testing and such. This, however, should be addressed as Whip mentioned as it can get out of hand. Personally I think clan captains should also expect a certain code of conduct from their players. I know if we went around acting like asses Unimatrix would personally cross the oceans to kick our behinds ;D ;D

Yes, maybe in the ladder we should get a rule about age, you cant discuss to a captain if you are not over 18 years old. It can seem funny, but something like that can help vs children. They are children and the act like a child, we cant expect other act. Sorry for my english

ya know whip the old saying was if you host it you set the rules..and if you dont like it find another game. One thing that has stayed constant is that there are far less hosts than players. Announce what it is ahead of time and go from there. If you are nice enough to host it the least you should get is final say. A lot of times we would look at set-up and say "hey how about xyz vs ...."and we would work to get fair teams.

All this crap took about a half hour. Zaxxon got in 2 smokes. I am confident you had an imposter. Anyone that knows zaxxov knows he is not capable of 'gettin in 2 smokes' in 1/2 an hour.... not a chance, one I may believe it was him. On another note I agree. Perhaps if you simply resolve yourself to making reposts and enjoy killin you will receive more pleasure out of future smears. I have lost about 80% of the Future team matches the last 5 weeks I have enguaged in. Usually there are kills, by my hand or another, yet the loss is unavoidable. Ancient games were evened a little bit by the reward of civ choice. I think many of the games I played(due to the incompitence of the few particular players involved)recently would not have been swayed one bit had our team chosen all civs for every player(both sides). I have simply resolved myself to make reports a plenty and play a game I find enjoyable untill the inevitable concession. Future suck in this regard, I still enjoy the scenario.

my god ! how has it come to this ? It came to this because these kids 2day care more about getting rank than enjoying a game.
