Build Barracks!!. Yesterday I saw a stack of 8 Regular Swords heading to me. I had about 12 Vet Horses waiting for them...
Don't attack Sentinel unit on mountains with single units either, esp if they are outside your territory, often that attack will fail and allow that unit to heal while possibly promoting it in the process.

It's usually better to keep an attacking force in one giant stack.

Stick to building warriors early in the game and resist the urge to pump out even a single spear, especially if you are planning on defending against an early rush.

I do so you say, but them jags are always getting into everywhere and its like hell. And what can I do with them jag end-turn movers?

Ok, but what about jags? I do so you say, but them jags are always getting into everywhere and its like hell. And what can I do with them jag end-turn movers? Sentries, sentries sentries! Stand on mounatins around your territory if you know they are coming... they are easy to kill! Each jag cost 7 shields.... Your warriors cost 5 for the same strength... and ifyou know they are coming you can always rush spears!

I remember last time I got that jag rush coming to me, I had sentries out on mountains where he came from so I could see them in reasonable time. So then I was building warriors in all cities (4) and some of them had some spears too. So I sent the units to the outskirt cities where he came at, but suddenly some jags showed up next to my capital. So I almost got killed. Good thing to know that the warriors cost less than the jags though , then a possible out-produce strategy might work... tnx!

There's one reason to leave a city empty, sometimes a stack can be drawn away from one city towards and area that is more easily reinforcable, it happens rarely but I seen a stack change directions, from a city and go for the empty one that they can see via say a scout on a mountain, then when they get here I have 6 spears and a few archers in there instead of the 2 or three I may have had on the less reinforcable city, course some people watch how you reinforce the city after you changed your mind and then go for the original city, but by then you've bought yourself an extra turn to reinforce the weak one. It's possible to feint and bluff as a defender as well as an attacker.

immortalord when to build spears is wait till your a cities can build them in 1 to 2 turns but i usally build a couple archers to help kill them jags/scouts/impis around before i build a couple spears plus archers give u bombardment on defense, then you use your warriors you had as defense as sentry nets or even keep them at home for a nice sword stack ;D ;D most games its around turn 30ish before i build my 1st spear

I must try that, turn 30 you say, what if they attack with swords, you'd need alot of archers to defend with just warriors surely? I do the spears around turn 20 I think but sometimes Ill get one out early if the city looks threatened. Should I of built 2 warriors instead?

Very often I will not build start building spears until late in the game. What I will do is make one spear for each city with a large amount of warriors under it. Its usually a good idea to have a lot of warriors, because 2 warriors is better than one spear, albeit slightly more expensive. The good thing is that if you have a huge amount of warriors, later in the game if you hook iron you can upgrade a lot of them to swords, upping their defense from one to two, and upping their offense from one to three. That is a very significant upgrade for an ancient game, swords can attack a huge stack of horses attacking you, and whatever they dont kill, they should be able to defend fairly easily. And you can throw them on boats and kill someone. Plus its easier to throw out more "disposable" warrior units on nearby mountains for sentries. So I am all about the warriors.
