A Permanent List of Cheaters

I suggest that the admins keep a permanent list of cheaters on a thread in this forum.
Don't worry about retroactivating this list i.e. don't worry about putting all the past cheaters on it, just start it, make an anouncement, and go from there: I think trying to make it retroactive would make it too complicated and would overload the admins.

-Have this list categorized, say cton violations, settler sliding, gliding units, etc.
-Only serious violations need to be put on the permanent list. Non-reports, obnoxious 250 reports creating lots of work for admins, quitting games, and just basic rudeness & obnoxiousness does not belong here. Only people who have made a conscious decision to install a trainer, rewrite the program, abuse known cheats (settler sliding, gliding units), cton violations etc. should be documented permanently here.
-If a player is put on this list under serious violations (settler sliding and not owning up to it in the game, gliding units) a certain number of times (2? up to the admins or a poll) then he or she is permanently banned. = New Category = banned players
-Otherwise the player has no other restrictions than he has now when he is boxed.
-If a cheater on the list changes his/her name, make note of it.
-Also keep the punishment etc. on the list as well, admins could simply just copy and paste from the current box black list to this thread so that the circumstances of the cheating can be understood.

This is my suggestion for the ladder, I think that it will prove to be a great detterent for cheaters in the ladder, but it is also forgiving because even though a cheater is caught, they aren't permanently banned unless they continue to do so....I don't think anyone would disagree with banning a cheater who continues to cheat AFTER being caught the first time.
Also this would show trends in reporting publicly, say for example someone is consistently late on reports, then all of his or her non-reports filed will be public, and maybe the list will get embarrasing and they will start reporting directly after matches...
There would be no disputes about if a cheater should be allowed back on the ladder or not, the rules are simple, and if you cheat, you do not belong on the ladder.
This would encourage honest players to stick with the ladder and maybe some old schoolers to reconsider and come back to us. I think we'd find that the ladder would become a more fair and fun place to play.

what is settler gliding?

settler sliding is one thing, gliding units is another. I'm not sure really what gliding is, i don't know how it is done, however, I've seen it done to me and asked around and everyone told me it was a serious cheat. Apparently there is a way to move a unit all the way across the map if you want to. If you see a unit "glide" or "slide" on your screen and it is in the "fog of war" or the darkened area of the map where you aren't supposed to see units, then you know that person is cheating and you should check saves and report.

I can go along with this idea, but there are some things to clarify.

1) I do not consider people boxed for non-reports as "cheaters" unless they make a real habit of it. Some of you have seen recently how easy it can be to be boxed for not reporting. I don't think your names belong on a "Permanent Cheaters' List."

2) Are we to make an effort to keep up with name changes? Most cheaters (and some others) change their names quite often. How do you know whether "Farquhar" in your game is not Civ Rider Zheng?

These are not insurmountable problems, but they are among those that need to be addressed. There may be others.

Yes keep up with name changes, usually they leak out, and hopefully ladder players who get wind of it should report it.

Here, I'll even start it! No offense qat and Fanci, I love you both, but you shouldn't have cheated....

king rohan 5 January 2008 was kicked off will not follow ladder rules, quitting games. Too young for civ.

who the hell died and left this guy in charge of this shiite anyway? Pointless to make a list IMHO. We know who they are if you have been around long enough and still play the game...More important issues need to be addressed by ladder admin IMHO...

How about a list of cheaters, the date they cheated, where they live, what cheat they use, what computer they used it on and oh yea I want illustrations using those red lines drawn to point at the cheating units.

How about this, how about you keep track of the cheaters yourself and ask the admins to do whats necessary to keep the ladder up and running for as long as possible. I think their current responsibilities are more than enough.

Its not exactly like there are 100,000 people playing this game. I think most are aware of the Brigs, CRZ and the OS'

Besides that what good is a list going to do when they never come back using the same name

It is a suggestion, in the suggestions thread which happens to be just for this purpose. The thread was made by the admins who are obviously, can you believe it, open to suggestions.

I'd be happy to copy and paste the black list to another thread once every 7 days. If people tell me of cheaters name changes, I'd post them as well. I am bewildered as to how this idea is so offensive to some of you.

Think its a GREAT IDEA. altough i wouldnt include people that are boxed, not since seeing how its already posted on myleague. BUt if you cheat shouldnt you be band from ladder for at least 6mths?
