Hi all,
Coming out of the woodwork here. I notice some familiar faces on these forums and I'm wondering if some folks who are active might want to start up a PBEM. I've done 2-3 1v1s which were fun. A 4 player would be nice, as it's kind of the minimum number to ensure no odd player out.
Anyway, just putting this shout-out here since there's no player registry. Keep me in mind, email me at chapman AT hawaii . edu, or post here. A PM here might get you a response in a week or so, so not the most effective way to contact me.
Hrathnir, if you're still around and want another 1v1 or want to organize something bigger, I'd be up for that. Cheers,
Onan
P.S.: if anyone reading this knows THE hotspot for PBEMs on the web, clue me in. I've checked out civfanatics, but that's about it.

I am all for it. I recently had very interested QC pbem. We can try npm or watever ppl want. Best is to have 4 players with 2 civs each.

Cool. If you don't mind being the organizer, since it seems you've done this before, then I'm happy to start whenever we get a couple more. Maybe we can rope in Hrathnir and Avogadro...or nealcain, or a_night...just thinking of the names I saw in this forum.
Two civs each sounds like it could be pretty interesting.
btw, what is npm?

I prefer something open rather than a scenario for my first bigger game. Thanks, though.

QC vp scoring, 2 civs each, 4 city elim? I'll play. I don't think 2 civs per player is a good idea. It's too much of an advantage when one player has his 2 civ's close.

Wow, lotta turn out all of a sudden. Well, we actually have 5 who want to play at this point, and I agree with Whip's concern about possible imbalance with two civs each, so...shall we start up a 5 man? I'm game to try Avo's proposed rules, though it's been ages since I played any VP scoring. Elim...not so sure, in an epic game, I think it should be fight to the last breath. Bonez, Whip, owl, you guys game for those rules? I'd prefer someone else actually set up the game, since I've only played 1v1 PBEMs. I'm fine with a random civ. Although I do have a soft spot for the Babs. Oh and finally, if you guys want reports (assuming you earn them ), then I'll have to rejoin the ladder. Say the word. Glad to see familiar faces interested in getting in on this. edit: timezones? Hawaii here...as far as I know you guys are all on the continent somewhere...and I suspect owl is in Europe somewhere. Whoever starts it, turn order should go west from there, I think.

Owl and myself are in Florida... Avo lives on the farm with his sister wife, and whip lives with his mom still... just kidding... all NA'rs here.... (Owl is an immigrant turned surfer). I too am not found of elim... Don't mind VP scoring QC is :/ as well... honestly I wouldnt mind non-QC non-AP, but that would make for a hell of a game and commitment. Also agree with whip, 2 civ each? someone is gonna get screwed and someone gonna make out like a bandit. Stick to 1 i say, but maybe a 3 settler start kinda thing to kick it off (think Whip or DTA has a 3 settler start scenario).
Babs are a hell of an epic civ... but there are others that are competitive with them as well. My only concern is the rules.. or are there none? FFA? Trade, coordinate, backstab, all that good stuff to your hearts content? If its Ironman style, every man for himself CTON rules... I promise I'll smoke you all.... but a FFA could make it very interesting indeed and propel us thru the ages very quickly.

I do have a 3 settler start which is "normal" unlike the 3CCC. It would jump start the game.
I would like to see an even number of players if it's gunna be FFA.

Cton style sounds fun as I don't think I will be smoked by all as someone put it If two civs a disadvantage...what about 3 each? This makes for 15 on huge map. I dont mind 1 civ each but if you get a bad start you screwed. Unless we use a premade map? For instance Sobela got a nice 5-6 civ QC start, each own continent. I played it once but dont remember map much except that everyone had land and resources. She had purposely made resources far away on each continent to force people to use lots of workers. Whip's 3 settler start is fine but if its qc, we wont need it.

Has something changed with civ3? Last I remember, the max civs you could have was eight. Or am I wrong? Yeah I agree we should discuss rules a bit so there are no ugly surprises. I prefer FFA for the epic game, with whatever agreements any players agree to make with each other, and whatever breaches of those agreements your honor will allow (or not). You know, real-world rules. I think one of the best things about an epic PBEM is that it allows for real diplomacy between turns. Avo's offered and I'm happy for him to set the game up. I'm all for a QC and/or multi-settler start. We could always allow for one mulligan if people are concerned about getting screwed on their starts. Something fast-paced would be a great way to actually get through a full game. One thing I'd expect from all of you would be a commitment to play to the bitter end, even if you get screwed over (aka invaded and dominated), rather than quit when it's no longer 'fun' for you. In other words I'd expect you to continue in this game even if you're in a situation along the lines of the one PAL is in in the civ3 ISDG. Doh! Cool, Owl surfs too. (Ever heard of Owl Chapman? or Kalani Chapman, the (semi-?) pro surfer?) I guess that (him being in Florida) means I'll be the last turnplayer, which is fine. Not sure about who should go first, depends on your schedules, and I don't know how far west Avo is. Nice, let's get this thing rolling!

If you have a mulligan you should have it so all get to call a mulligan. I mean even for restarts. Otherwise a player with a good start has to throw it away because somebody calls a mulligan and gets a crap start on the do-over and can't do anything about it.
Avo is in the Eastern US timezone.
