I was day dreaming about the ccc, and thought how one day it will be one person clans, then I thought, why wait. Yes, we could have a ccc, or a separate tourney rather where it is every person for themselves. A tournament to see who is the best civ player left. It could be a big tournament with like 7 events, where each person can play like up to 4-5 of them, (so they get time slot and game types they like), anyway I've thought about this some and have some other great ideas I can go into detail later on, but a singles tournament with like 25+ people sounds like a lot of fun to me. Please post comments and suggestions. Is there any appeal out there for this kind of tournament?

1v1 games are boring. But maybe making 3v3 and 2v2 tourneys with random partners would be cool.
Plus, if I play it, there would be no competition, and lots of ppl wouldnt show up, cuz they would be fighting only for the 2nd place.

2v2 or 3v3 may be funner but, if you are gonna play like 4-5 of 7 events, having only 1 person responsablie for showing up is a huge advantage. If a person/team doesn't show up, in 1v1's/ctons it doesn't hurt the tournament structure as a whole. with random partners you still have the problem of cordinating times to show up/debating what events to play, maybe even quitting ect. 1v1 can be fun, I just think the bragging rights need to be raised, maybe crown the winner, the Best Civ PLayer, (although many would debate 1v1 and ctons showing who is really the best player). But in this supposed tourney I would think there should be events of all types, futures, ancs, other scens like jags vs jags or whatever, and ctons, ect. everything, lots of possiblaites and with 7 events or something where u can chose to play a select few, you should be able to pick the events you like and have fun

I wish someone else would log on so I can have a discussion with someone not as close minded as you

Hm... Using cases system you can make a random partner per tourney... So, every1 that check in will play with a random partner only that event. Wont be the whole tourney - it would still be a individual tourney but events wouldn't be 1v1.

Although, i would fear, someone throwing an event so that their partners didn't get any more points or something, also i was considering if there would be a finals day, like a final vanilla tourney or something on sunday, that or just the person with the most points wins, but I think most know, and the ccc has shown, that the best display of whose is actually the better player/team comes from head to head match ups. Anyway, a tournament where there is a mix of teamers 1v1's ctons and everything, and the total points of each individual are calculated could truly claim to find the best civ3 player. Of course I still belive there should be more events than what a person is allowed to play so that they can pick the time and events that suit them, since not all like fut and not all like anc, although I think a tournament like this would be much like a ccc and have more anc events than fut/indus bws just by default

Something similar has been done before... the World Singles championship or something (search for it). Was built up around 3 events, a regular cton, a mpt and a vanilla. But it was not 1v1, except for the vanilla.
1v1 tend to be won by the people with the best land.

What do you think for this as a tourney? ; Have (up to) 8 groups of 4. Within each group, everyone plays each other twice -"home and away". When at "home", you decide what 1v1 scenario to play, and of cause, the other play decides what scen to play when you are "away". Everyone is guaranteed 6 matches, and the top player in each group (who wins the most games) advances into the final match in a fcton style game to determine the overall winner. This may need a couple of weekends to complete, and may prove difficult to schedule the matches, but at least half the games are what you want to play

Well personally I like my and rod's idea for a tournament 100x better. In the style we are proposing you can have 3v3's and 2v2's even 4v4's if u wanted, ctons, 1v1's everything and every scen just like a ccc, only the teams would be auto-team locator for every event and you would be playing like a ccc by youself just without a clan. The purpose is for tons of fun, less hassle in organizing teams, and more participation. Without needing a clan hopefully more would participate, and the tournament could be ran without a sign up needed, open to all ladder players. Anyway, I was hoping more people would post and respond to this thread, heh only players from AWP have responded to this thread .

Both are not bad ideas. I like both. Groups should be upped to 5 though so you could jsut do 4 matches instead of 6. And the big cton might not work either.
The "random" teamer event has problems too, how are you gonna get people to stick around for more than 1 round and how do you prevent certain people from getting lucky and getting all the good players on their team every game they play?
Also you be aware that people tend only to show up for the ccc.

Also you be aware that people tend only to show up for the ccc. For what its worth, this has been tried several times before, from the tournament of champions to the civ3 league. The problem we have always had is that if the games stretched over more than a weekend, we could never get the matches played. This is when we had probably 200 active members. Yilar is right, today people only show up for the CCC. You have teams of 14, it's concentrated over a weekend with over a months notice in advance and there are still teams not participating in all events because they cant fill. Good luck. I hope you can get it done, it sounds like fun
