Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that. I did get a Scientific Great Leader in my game as the Byzantines. Yeah, scientific isn't so bad when paired up with a strong trait (ind/exp/rel/agr). Scientific and seafaring just didn't do much for me though. Mo

They won't get popup cities in Elimination, you mean. In victory points, you still get them.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record - try victory points! You don't even need to play Pangea anymore!
Just set the land at 60 percent and land mass to random; SEA civs can almost certainly make a crossing and the others have the advantage of their traits, if you start on different land masses. I'm not suggesting every game like this, but it's a notion.
In regards to the Byzantines - yeah, I wasn't too sure what the future of Byzantium would be, which I noted. Might be a fast way to gain contact with all your teammates on a small map though. Did you try bombarding coastal towns at all?

No; the only bombardment I had a chance to do was of a horseman on the coast. My opponent put it there on purpose then said "C'mon Mo, let's see you open up some of that Greek Fire on my horse" LOL I might be mistaken, but I thought I took him from 3 hp down to 1 hp with a single bombard. The sound effect was darned loud and freaked me out. Hehehe
I might play the Byzantines once in a while as they do have some redeeming qualities. I think you (Fried) have them slotted correctly in your Civ analysis at the beginning of this thread though. They are average at best.

... It's maybe 8-1 or something like that. I think there may be enough time to get a few units into your city during an attack... ;D Mo I've not yet been attacked by more than a twelve unit stack, and though the battle did last quite a few seconds, regardless of how hard often I tried to get a stack of backup units two squares away into the city, they just would not budge. And with scientifics in multiplay, it seems that when they get to philo, they don't get a free tech, but instead two scientific leaders (one for first to research tech, the other as a replacement for a free tech??) Dromon's are really nice, but I'm not sure byzantines have much of a chance in a standard ladder match. But for fast naval invasions, carth and dutch seem like they'ed be perfect. Question about the dromon: when it's defending/attacking, it looks as though it sprays its greek fire in three different directions...is it so, and if there are units near it will they be hit?

Don, I think the player in question who got to Philo first was just *fabulously* lucky- you do get a free tech even in MP when you are the first to Philosophy; you just don't get any notice of it, and if you don't have your next research queued up, it'll automatically pick whatever is cheapest (very often Mysticism) and since that's not a popular research pick..... Enjoy the free Pyramids and Temple I hope?

yep, philo does work properly ...however, the only tech that could be queued in multiplay seems to be code of laws, if you're on your way to republic...

Enjoy the free Pyramids and Temple I hope? You can't build a temple (or any other city improvement or military unit) with a Scientific GL. You can only build Wonders. Not sure if you can build Small Wonders with them, as when I got mine no Small Wonders were available yet. Mo

Sorry, "Temple" was short for "Temple of Artemis."

Somewhere in the forums I have seen the Inca and their cute lil UU will soon be the new jag of civ. 1/1/2 20 sheilds Chasqui 1/1/2 15 shields Jag 1/2/2 20 shields Impi I'll have to say I still don't see the fascination... I'll stick with the Impis for now thx... Yes the civ traits vary a bit between these three, but when you look at that...

Total Noob here, but I liked rundown on the civs in C3C (I tried PTW two days and immediately got C3C. With C3C I have a chance to win)
Mayans seem to be the best of the civ. Love them javelin throwers. Enslave! Enslave! Enslave!
Playing Byzantines right now without using any of the sea stuff and kicking AI. Could this Zeus thing (with its free AC every five turns) be too good?

I've only just discovered this forum site and it scares me to know the extensive knowledge people have at their hands, its probaly the reason i keep getting pummeled to death before i even built my first granery. Still I'm glad this knowledge is here cuase I'll be studying it hard now, AND THE WORLD WILL NO FEAR WHEN THEY SEE THE NAME MADfuknRAW....maybe

I have got back to review some of this from the link from another thread(ie :Rome, you serious?). I have found that again Carthage has been down played as amerely a builder civ(for experienced players pref). I still (yes I have before as well) think Carthage is one of the premeire 'killer' civs. They just love to killkillkill. I'll take Carthage anyday....come on in , the water is nice.

I also like the javelins, they are cool in war, but they are so expensive. I must agree that those impis rock. Yesterday I got impi-blocked from my walled city, and killed cause i could not reinforce.
