I had not expected that some of our stats might make the changeover. I think it would be worthwhile. Our old ranks would be meaningless (like they mean something now), but I like the idea of seeing my 6000 games up on the stats. By the way, I have had many complaints from people about Case's ranking system and why can'tt it be done differently. Here's a chqance to do it differently, but not in Case's. Yes and infact if there are changes that Civ3 players want that the Civ4 crowd never asked for there is nothing keeping us from making those custom changes. Just to let everyone know if the vote does go for moving to Civplayers, it will take us 3-4 weeks to finish all the code, perhaps sooner but I can only get Slaughter to work 23hrs a day So there will be lots of time to make the transition and time to get upto speed on the changes. what about our forum? Can we transfer our strategy section to the new one? Can we transfer our multiplayer modes/scenerios?

what about our forum? Can we transfer our strategy section to the new one? Can we transfer our multiplayer modes/scenerios? Unfortunately the only way to transfer posts is to manually copy and paste them, we have done this for the more important strategy posts but most things are just re-discussed at some point. Proboards won't give us direct access to there database so this is our only option, but the good thing is that proboards doesn't ever delete forums for inactivity. So this forum can stay here for historical purposes. What I did for the old C4P forums was to make it so that people can't sign up for it and only Admins/Global mods can post/edit etc. Which defacto locks the forum into read only mode. You can see our old C4P forums here civ4players.proboards44.com/index.cgiAnd you can see that you can read the forums, but I put a notice in the news fader stating that we have moved. All mods, maps, and scenarios can be uploaded to the league file server, your admins will be able to do this, or players that are premium members can upload files too. You can see the Civ4 files we currently host here, the Civ3 league will have the same thing. league.civplayers.com/?section=downloadsCS

Isn't the forum independent of the ladder anyway?
We could use your forum and/or Proboards with links to both.
Kinda like we don't use the Case's/Myleague forums on their ladder page. I figured the reason for that was that Proboards provided a better product at the time.

I figured the reason for that was that Proboards provided a better product at the time. When SPM and myself, and F-P, created C3P we used Proboards because the built in Cases forums were really crappy. But that is one of the things that we didn't want to do when we designed Civilization Players. We wanted an integrated forums so that we would not have to explain to new players why we have two sites to sign up for at different locations. You could continue to use this forum but that would likely confuse new and old players alike. And I think that people will like the features of the Simple Machines Forum software that we are using, it has many nice features that proboards doesn't like being able to attach images directly. CS

I've tested out their system and it works fine. The only thing that worries me is the seemly "locked" width of the forum which is only some 800 pixels or so wide. You can right click on the forums and chose "open in a new tab" or "open as a new window", that will spread it out wider that the 800 pixel iframe. CS

I see now that civplayers.com contains a choice of civ3 or civ4 what looks much better than before. Thx.

so when does the migration begin?

so when does the migration begin? Well first the official vote has to finish and be in favour of migrating to Civplayers, but assuming that the official email vote is similar to this thread, we are planning that you are moving to Civplayers, if we didn't plan for it we would really be behind if the vote is in our favour. But even with our preparations it will still be at least a couple weeks before we could start the process.(it will take that long to setup and clone a system, plus we have a CCC this weekend the same as you) What I did for the C4P-CP migration was to open the new league for registrations a week or more ahead of any planned shut down of the old sites. Then people can move over, I also made the ladder activations require approval which of course are no longer accepted, and I would send a polite email to people that tried to register, pointing them to the new league page. Then about a week after the league was in operation and going well I made the old forums read only. So it is still about a 2 week process after the league opens to get to full operating capacity. There will likely be some bugs, although we solved almost all of those with the Civ4 league already, but there will be a bugs/suggests area in the new forums to get any new issues solved a soon as possible. Of course the aim of all this is to make a move as smooth and quick as possible and get everyone comfortable in the new league and back concentrating on just playing fun games of Civ3. CS

A couple other features, some of which due to current limitations would have to be shared between the 2 leagues. We have a TS server which you guys are more then welcome to use if you like as well. A standard member can not create any new rooms on the TS server, but a premium member can. We will most likely be adding a dedicated IRC server in teh next couple months as well and at that time you guys would be welcome to use it as well. This comes in real handy when GS goes down.

Uhhh, DTA?
Could you please rephrase that using small words for the simple minded (me!). These would be additional servers in addition to the GS server we've always used?

There is the web server that the site is on. We also have a teamspeak server for voice chat. This is nice for teamers. We are also going to be adding an IRC server(text chat) as a back up chat client for when GS goes down. They are linked into the main site and are integrated into the member database. If you look at the current Civ4 main page you will see the TS info in the bottom right corner. When logged in those become links and will auto start the teamspeak client and log you into voice chat with just a click.
