Should We Stay or Should We Go?

This forum poll is a non-binding vote to demonstrate support (or lack thereof) for remaining with the new Myleague/Case's Ladder interface or switching to the CivPlayers League. Non-binding because there is no control in this forum for multiple accounts or even to check if people here are currently active members on the ladder.

The real voting is currently underway by email. A mass email (copy/pasted below) was sent out through the Myleague Newsletter Saturday, 30 June. Since I've discovered that many people have opted out of the newsletter, I am resending the email voting questions to the membership personally.

Please think this over carefully and vote on the future of our ladder. You can vote here and see which way the wind is blowing day by day, but please remember that the vote that counts is the email vote.

Most of you have by now become at lest somewhat familiar with the new Myleague/Case's ladder interface. They have some bugs to iron out, and I'm sure they will eventually get things running smoothly. However, I want the league membership to cast their votes as to whether to continue
with the Myleague/Case's ladder format.

The admins and developers on the Civ4 ladder have offered us our own, separate ladder within their new ladder system. The new CivPlayers League interface has been up and running for some time now, and those using it seem quite pleased with the result. It includes, among other things, a different system for reporting. As explained to me, winners file the reports, which can then be confirmed or objected to by the other players. If no one objects in 3 days, the reports are final anyway. This puts the burden of reporting on the ones who are most likely to do
it: the winners.

If we move to the new CivPlayers system, we will lose all of our stats and start from scratch. We can record Hall of Fame stats in The Forums for historical purposes, but we'd all start at square one in the new ladder.

We would also lose the advertising and such that appears on the Myleague page.

Please realize that we would NOT be playing Civ4. Everyone in their system will have the opportunity to belong to the C3C ladder, Civ4 ladder or both. Our rankings, stats, admins and problems would be our own. We would just be "renting" their space.

I've tested out their system and it works fine. The only thing that worries me is the seemly "locked" width of the forum which is only some 800 pixels or so wide.

I strongly recommand you to move on CivPlayers League, for example for the report system with which we dont have "no-report" anymore.

Slaughter, the guy who coded our site, is really a genius, he would be able to make you all you ever dreamed

For example i know only ancient or future are played on civ3 lobby, for most part.We can then imagine a hall of fame of civ3 future player (if they decide to play them ladder as in good old time) and civ3 ancient (cton and/or teamer) as we have for civ4 a hall of fame for OCC, Cton etc...

At moment we are working on the Game monitor, which is a "software" which allow us to "fallow" a game as a spectator.

It send game data to the civplayers server at the end of each turn, the server will update the game stats and show them within the monitor page - don't panic, only basic game information, nothing secret or game breaking.

We can imagine it working for the CCC civ3.

Switch but take HALL of FAME with us. There is 6 yars of history we don't wanna lose. So many people with 2,000+ games...would be nice for them to carry their stats. Could everyone start with same skill level but keep previous stats?

For me it looks like the website is designed for civ4 and pretends to be only Civilization game. Links, reporting and so on all points to civ4 ladder. That is obviously misleading and unfair to civ3 players. I vote to stay with separate system not to mix with civ4.

Well, I don;t know if it's fair accusing them of pointing everything to Civ4 since we aren't even there yet. I would hope for some lnks for our game once we moved, but I wouldn't expcet to see them until then.

I would expect their emphasis to remain on Civ4, since that's what the designers of the league play and they are doing all the work.

Yes you are complaining that we don't have a Civ3 section ahead of a formal decision of your ladder to make a move, it would be rather presumptuous of us to assume that you are going to chose CivPlayers over Myleague ahead of time.

But I can add Civ3players in the Affiliates area for now, if that will make you feel more welcome.

Surely there would be a way to transfer say the top 300 stats? Enter them manually into the system? I woudl volunteer my time if someone shows me how.

It would be possible to manually change peoples win/loss record, but outside that the ranking systems are just to different to try and translate. And even the win/loss record is not totally accurate as Cases treats all games as a series of 1v1, were the Civplayers skill system treats a game as a game, doesn't matter if it is a cton, teamer or 1v1, they are all just a single game on your win/loss records.

But since we are taking about 200 players it is something that we can manually move as much as possible, but there are limitations.

What is really better is that Civplayers takes a true assessment of your skill, and not just how often you play and how lucky you get sometimes and "jump" up the ladder. We all know that the ranking on Cases never really meant very much, that is one area that will change if you move to Civplayers, and it will be a bit of a learning curve for some, but in the long run it is a much more accurate system.

But I can understand wanting to keep the record of the 1000's of matches that you have played. Just remember that editing your player profile can only happen after you create an account, so it won't be instantaneous, it will mean someone like me or one of your admins manually looking at your Cases player profile and moving the win/loss record over.

I had not expected that some of our stats might make the changeover. I think it would be worthwhile. Our old ranks would be meaningless (like they mean something now), but I like the idea of seeing my 6000 games up on the stats.

By the way, I have had many complaints from people about Case's ranking system and why can'tt it be done differently. Here's a chqance to do it differently, but not in Case's.
