OK whats beneficial to a tile to irrigate during despotism.
Beneficial:
all plains (including flood) all deserts (except oasis) grasslands with a cow
Not Beneficial: Grasslands! (except cow) desert with oasis
Unsure: Grassland (with wheat) Grassland (with grape) Plains/Grassland (with tobacco)
Any other grasslands with something on it that good to irrigate or any other helpful things to spout out?

Despotism works on a simple rule: If you have three or more, the Despot keeps one for himself. That applies to food, production, or commerce. Thus, producing: 1 of something gives 1 2 of something gives 2 3 of something gives 2 4 of something gives 3 5 of something gives 4 6 of something gives 5 (I think that's the highest anything can reach in an ancient/despotic game - 6 food for floodplain wheat that has been irrigated.) So, regular grassland (2 food) irrigated gives 3 = 2 food in Despotism. Grassland with cow (4 food) irrigated gives 5 = 4 food in despotism. (I personally mine these, but to each their own.) Grassland with wheat or grapes - both give 1 food - (3 food) irrigated gives 4 = 3 food in despotism. Tobacco gives a commerce bonus only. FYI- why it's not really worth it to mine hills/mountains in Despotism, but very worth it the moment you get out: Hill (1 food/1production) mined gives 3 production = 2 in despotism.... which really is no better than a shielded grassland being mined, but takes a lot longer to do. (On the other hand, mining a grape hill = 2 food 3 production after Despotism. Sweet!)

This is in response to something at the beginning of this thread, but... Yes I have culture flipped someone in a short elim game--well, actually he was my ally, and I got the message that one of his cities wanted to join my empire. I thought about it hard and finally decided the honorable thing to do was "rebuff the rebels." One of the hardest things I've ever had to do in a civ game. The city was close on my border and his civ had little if any cultural improvements, while I had many. (Remember that, LoneTamale?)

That pretty much explains everything for irrigiation in despot.
OK, How many non industrial workers does it take to make a road on a grassland in despotism in one turn?
If a worker moves 2 road tiles then begins working tile does he lose anytime compared to the guy that didnt move any?

I've come up with a mod that I will run for my next tourney. It will take a worker 6 turns to build a road on grassland because they are all unionized. This will prevail until the player discovers the "union busting" tech and the worker can be replaced by a new unit called scab.

I played that mod. It was regicide, if we found the president we won the game. We never found him though, rumor has it he was burried in the north end of the colossium.

The mod also has a new tribe, NFL Bears. This tribe has a fast and powerful UU, the Urlacher. This unit is a modified Viking Berserker. Only problem with it is that it frequently moves in the opposite direction from the command given to it.

Ive stopped playing that civ. They are usually out of the game before 50 turns. I have also experienced that the UU always seems to head for france lands face down in Paris and it wont get up.

I'll pick it! ya UFCW588 -never again....Give me liberty or give me death! I used my SGL, Al Davis, to increase research and when I got the tech 'Team Trainer' advance I built the great woner THG and it made the pre said UU obsolete. Have any of you found this to be true as well, this was a non scientific study... ;D
