summer it is then As for computer types, I have been running AMD my last three comps. It runs fine with one application open but slows down dramatically when I have a few different operations going on. I currently have amd 3300xp, with 1 gig ram. Would i be better of with a pentium base model. I heard they may multiprocess a little better?

(restarting by zero..) u got a good computer, that runs vista too.. dual core intel processors are a step forward amd ones.. but as i suggested before, wait some months.. your computer is good enough

AMD is developing Dual core processors too, we'll see how they stack up soon. I'll be trialing Vista soon and will give you a balanced opinion on it. While it may not meet the big hype MS is generating I also think it's more than a pretty XP....time will tell.

I am playing a huge epic on my comp. IT is beginning industrial times at it can take up to 1 minute to process between turns. Is this normal. Is it related to my comp speed or is it because the software (civ) is already 4-5 years old and no matter how strong a comp I get, this delay will occur?

Too Late CS has the product key It didn't work so feel free to give it away Banty. However I discovered that Vista doesn't need a product key at install time, but that that gives you a 30 day trial but I found a ligitiment way that MS allows people to reset this 3 times. So infact you get a 90 day trial. By then I'll decide to keep it and buy a key or do a clean XP install. So far I like the UI changes in Vista, but being old I've set several items to "classic mode" like the start menu and the control panel. I really like the build in sidebar and the voice recognition software that has no system resources impact that I can see, and after the voice training session it works very well. MTF as I get more time with it. CS

Avo hit Clt-Alt-del and bring up the task manager and watch the CPU and memory columns and see if your bottleneck is the CPU or memory when Civ is playing. That will help you decide your upgrade path. CS

Bantams have you tried the "flip 3d" open program sorter, it's rather more useful and eye catching than the old Alt Tab. Just don't have alot of high CPU sucking programs open when you do it CS
